About Us

The Table de concertation contre les mauvais traitements faits envers les personnes aînées de l’Estrie (TCMT), a round table on elder abuse in the Estrie region, was established in 1990 through the efforts of several stakeholders. It has led an unprecedented awareness-raising movement on violence, abuse and neglect against seniors. To date, many steps have been taken in order to meet TCMT’s missionto mobilize resources with the aim of fighting elder abuse in the Estrie region – including a screening guide, an awareness-raising campaign, a symposium, case discussion tables, inter-network intervention protocols, forum theatres, breakfast theatres, declarations, promotional tools, and local involvement, through various means.

After reaffirming its goals and objectives in 2005, the TCMT now works closely with each local seniors’ consultation committee in the Estrie region’s seven MRCs, and in cooperation with the health, community, regional and municipal networks on the following objectives :

  • To contribute to the prevention and reduction of elder abuse
  • To raise awareness among abused seniors or those at risk, stakeholders, natural care-givers and the population at large on the issue of elder abuse
  • To promote the dissemination of information on the various actions aimed at fighting abuse
  • To promote the concerted development of regional initiatives with regard to elder abuse
  • To support stakeholders and organizations in their direct intervention with this clientele
  • To develop or support the development of tools for raising awareness, training, prevention, screening and intervention, with regard to abused seniors
  • To recommend the adoption of valid screening, intervention or prevention tools for use with abused seniors.

A tribute to one of our own: Paul Pronovost

In February 2010, we were shocked and greatly saddened by the sudden death of Paul Pronovost, our colleague and friend. He left us without clamour, but wonderful memories of his many years of commitment to the Estrie community, particularly with the senior population, will remain. Creative, intelligent, sensitive and generous, Paul was very excited with the idea of creating this Web site and was one of its driving forces. His involvement may have been brief, but his passion and enthusiasm have guided us throughout the making of this site.

At the TCMT, we are saddened by much more than an empty chair; it is the departure of our main pillar and the absence of your smiling face, Paul, which saddens us the most… May you be proud and satisfied of our work, www.stop-abus-aînés.ca!

We miss you more than ever.
